The American Thanksgiving Day history

Most Americans are connected with a pilgrim Thanksgiving Day of 1621, but few realize that it wasn't the first Festival of its kind in North America. Long before all Europeans set foot in the Americas, the indigenous peoples urged to ensure a good harvest with dances and rituals of Thanksgiving.

History tells us the first Thanksgiving service seller held by Europeans in North America that occurred on 27 May, 1578 Newfoundland. Religious pilgrims who were sharing that fled oppression in England. Thank you for the Jamestown settlers safe arrival and any other service, was created in the year 1610 when the ship arrived after the difficult winter supplies. Then, in 1621-pilgrims Plymouth Plantation, Massachusetts held a Thanksgiving to give thanks to God for helping them to survive the winter holiday this cruel. three days and provided enough food pilgrims 53 and 90 Americans.

In 1623, the pilgrims at Plymouth Plantation held after another day of Thanksgiving. As drought was destroying their crops, settlers, prayed and fasted for relief and the rain came a few days later.Shortly afterwards, the captain miles Standish came with Staples, welcomed the new Dutch supply was on her way because all this luck, colonists held a day of Thanksgiving and prayer on June 30. This proves 1623 Festival were the source of our Thanksgiving Day, because it is also a religious and social thank you 's.

During the American Revolutionary War in the Continental Congress appointed a Thanksgiving Day for one or more each year, each time recommending managers of different situations of these countries in maintaining their days. Christmas Sunday national discovery of Hoodia has been granted by the Continental Congress in 1777.

Should give some credit for establishing the annual Thanksgiving holiday Sarah Josepha Hale. Was the author of the book Lady's women's magazine Godey. She began to ask for a day in the year 1827 by print magazines articles is also a story of its dozens of letters to Senators Governors, Presidents. Finally, after 36 years of crusading won her battle. in October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared that the 26-day and national Thanksgiving be observed every year on the fourth Thursday of November. He also made it partially to help soothe the national mood, he was tired of the civil war.

In 1865, President Andrew Johnson, declared Thanksgiving for 7 December 1865. Andrew Johnson was also the first President to give the employees of the Government of the day, making it a legal holiday.

Franklin d. Roosevelt, Depression-era to give merchants sell more days before Christmas, the third day will be allocated Thursday Thanksgiving in 1939 and 1940. but he was met with much opposition popular, because of the change required rescheduling events such as Thanksgiving Day parades and games soccer. in 1941, a shared solution medal set fourth week officially November's national holiday for Thanksgiving. On 26 December 1941, President Roosevelt signed this Bill following the date of Thanksgiving to interest federal law.

History shows us that we have both indigenous and European immigrants for a chance to look at the credits for a day of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time when our families and friends come together to thank God and country for the many churches all us. door also for their special services.

On this Thanksgiving, I hope all celebrate with prayer, patriotism, showing the gratefulness originally presented by pilgrims, and the native Americans in 1623.
